Hey Guys, I've just started adding all the brackets and stuff to the basic standard chassis, and I've just realised that the MK II Escort steering rack I've bought hasn't got any mounting clamps. I've tried everywhere but no one seems to have any idea where I can get a pair from! Just wondered if anyone has any ideas? Or is it gonna be a case of going down the scrappy and raiding an old Sierra? Cheers for any hep given.
Scrappy is the best bet, or Ian Harwood (sorry, no contact details, Google is your friend) might be able to help.
Don't know if the Sierra clamps will fit though?
i made and weld'd two brackets to mine, mounts put on chassis to siut, job done...

on the BEC list there is a big debate, people saying, "you can't build a BEC for under 3K" well i and others have, but the same people post a question
like
"where can i buy mounting brackets for my quaif reverse gearbox ?" Make the buggers is the answer, no wonder they can't get to grips with a 3K

i agree with the make them bit but when it comes to steering or brakes i think if your not confident in makin them u maybe go with wot you know will be right and most importantly safe.

i tink every1 has to remember that every1s skills and experiance is different and i hope to make as much stuff as humanly possible but if theres any
doubt in my mind thats its not safe it will either get done again or i will get someone i trust to do it for me

But, yes I agree about no dig at anyone who can't do everything themselves. Not everyone has a lathe at work (many offices for example don't have
lathes ) It's really as Jon says though, you can't bitch about the cost unless you do a lot yourself, visit the scrappies a lot or are very
creative. Usually a combination of all of those is, to me, the spirit of "locosting".

oh i agree with that
thats the handy thing bout workin in a mtr factors car will b built round more modern bits ie bushes outta mondeos and peugeots and stuff sometimes a
part comes in and u stop and think here that wil do and if its outta 1990 car it will b avalable for a lot longer than a herald bush
though i think my boss is fed up wit me trailin through catolougues all day..
and its amazin wot cars use the same bits

Talking bout makin bodies spoke to a guy who builds those racing sailin boats at bout 30odd ft for a hobbie (who also very handly done 3yrs automotive
design b4 yacht design) reckons bout a grand to build a full body like the westy xtr or the new mk in fibre glass. that includes getting the stencils
laer cut for the bucks for the moulds
the trouble is he's bored usin fibre glass ha wants to make it outta carbon
