Steering column problems
Lightning - 23/1/04 at 07:21 PM

I have just found a problem with my column.
It is an adjustable column out of a Sierra.

When it is locked on the adjustable set up you can still pull the wheel back about 1".
These means that you can pull it back out of the steering lock. What have I done wrong or is it U/S?

I have a Sierra column (non-adjustable). Everything is tightened up by the wheel's nut, but I had to make up a spacer to go between the back of the wheel and the shaft to prevent the problem you describe. The spacer is a snug-ish fit round the shaft, outside diameter around 30mm, and about 15-20mm deep.

This may be what you need!

Have you tightened the steering wheel nut to the correct torque? This pulls the column up somewhat. Should be ok after that me thinks - or I could just be talking out of my bottom.

I've got the same. I think it has to be bolted to the lower shaft to stop this.
