Have read a couple of posts on flares, but am non the wiser! Just about to start doing the brake pipes, and as I don't have any of the original piping
to copy, not sure if I need single or double flares. I've got a Sierra master cylinder, with Cortina calipers up front and 8" Escort drums at the
rear. Any advice would be much appreciated.
TIA, Ian.
Well now, my flaring set only has two dies for 3/16" pipe, one is for male fittings, and one for female fittings.
Does that answer your qestion?
Thanks for the input. Question still stands. Have instructions for single & double flare. Any constructive advice for this mechanically handicapped
builder would be much appreciated.
Ian.
u have to look at at the insides of what you are conecting up a single flared braxe pipe is shaped somethin like <____ and the
double goes >____
so the female ened of your lexi pipe or
master cylinder might b like ______< in shape so u use a single flare (<______) or it might
go ______> at the cylinder so use a double
flare >______
if you make a few you'll see wot i mean but if you goto your parts shop the catolougues usually have diagrms showing the different types.
p.s. imagine the _________ as being the brake pipe
Many thanks!
and remember always put both flare nuts on the copper pipe before flaring the second end..
who hasnt done that b4
I managed not to do it when I put my brake pipes in - but I've done it SO many times with electrical plugs!

TV aerial wire for me
just make sure you know how to use the tool!
I didnt get instructions with my first one, and it kinda tries to do the job but you get a ba^%ard result.
Using ford bits, most are double flares.
a single looks like a mushroom head. If you use the pointy end of the tool to force it back you get the convex double flare.
