sierra driveshaft worries.
Z20let Corsa - 8/1/09 at 09:24 PM

well ive just refurbed the driveshafts and put them together once finished and one is longer than the other. im slightly worried about this as im pretty sure the diff is to be mounted in the middle of the chassis!!!! Diff looks symetrical too. anyone else experienced this?? the diff and shafts etc were stripped off a xr4 axle that i purchased.

Dont panic- one is meant to be longer than the other!!! Someone will be on shortly to say which one goes where as i cant remember!!!

On some sierra's the drive shafts are indeed different lengths..... dont worry...

just look at the diff, IIRC its assymetric by a little more than an inch. the input flange doesnt sit int he middle of the casing?

ahhhh i never looked at that. i just looked at how much each side sticks out, not the input shaft!! i can work out which shaft goes on which side by that and by which way the threads go on the hub nuts. cheers lads.

From memory the short one is the near side.

Make sure you put the right hub end on the right shaft as I seem to remember it was a left hand thread on the nearside.

Or is my memory failing me and I'm thinking of something else. More help will be along no doubt.

As you look from the back to the front of the car the shorter shaft is on the left hand side.
