mounting shocks upside down

hi everyone
my rear shock top bolts can't be removed without removing the body (Pre Lit westy). i was wondering in i could mout them upside down as per newer westy's as this would allow for fine tuning of the springs later without removing the body everytime. shocks are spax units.

Not sure what you mean upside down.

The shock body should always be at the bottom with oil filled shocks otherwise you can end up with problems.

The only shocks that can be mounted with the body at the top or even on their side are the much more expensive ones from people like Nitron, even then you need to specify what you are going to do as the internal design of the shocks is different. It escapes me at the moment which is which.

As Davis says, you can't just flip your exising units over, the oilways and valves inside are designed for a particular orientation.

Nitron build theirs "upsidedown" as standard for th unsprung weight advantages, but at £1000 a set I don't think mere mortals would notice them

It might be worth speaking to Protech though and seing if they can build a set upsidedown, theyre going to be a lot more affordable if their design allows it?

I have GAZ golds on mine but spec'ed them for inverted use.

Maybe worth a call to them or Dampertec

Mine run fine upside down. I phoned the factory and they said as long as they were topped up to the limit they would be fine.

Only reason for running upside down is its easier to get at the adjusters to slacken off in wet weather apart from this I did not notice any difference.
