Just been looking at the mountings for the steering column on my Avon tonight, and for some reason its mounted at an angle, with the bottom pointing towards the engine. Anyone any ideas why? Think I read somewhere its an SVA requirement to have it at an angle, but won't this be acheived by the bottom link with the UJ in?

Seriously, this game has no rights and wrongs as long as you can get it through SVA testing. Consider everything as a guideline, including this forum and just try to make sense if it all and be happy with your own decisions.

ps. Forgot the original question. SVA recommends that you have a universal joint with between 10 and 30 degrees of angle to deflect shock. This doesn't mean that your steering wheel has to be on an angle. Sit in your car with seats fitted and hold the wheel where you want it to be and at the angle YOU want it. Get someone to help you to measure it and then make brackets to hold it in this position.

Also, if you are using a sierra crushable steering column then you already have an energy absorbing device and don't necessarily require the 10 - 30 degree UJ but if you have both then the SVA examiner will be pleased and might not measure your 9.5 degree angle!
