assembling wishbones

Im going to put my wishbones together tomorrow.

I know the bushes need greasing. What grease do i need? and where does it go? Whats the best method of getting the bushes and tubes in?

General consensus is copper grease, but most grease is fine - just coat the crush tube and the insides of the bushes. You dont need to lube where the bush sits in the bone, this isn't supposed to move...

so push the bushes in, grease in the inside of the bush and the outside of the tube and put the tube in.

Little tip, test each bush assembly by nipping the crush tube in the vice and checking that the arm rotates easily. A lot easier to rectify now than after the car is on its suspension. My crush tubes and a lot of others were too short.

Good advice.
You may be wise to measure all the tubes before you fit them, that way if you do have any variation and the problem above you may be able to swap them around. Else you will need some shim washers the same size as the tube to use as you fit them to the car.

According to Rorty, one of the suspension gurus on here (designed the De Dion and IRS suspension designs that are available to download from Flak's site), it's best to use Moly grease (contains Molybdenum disulphide I think).

It's available at motor factors for a few quid for a bigger pot than you'll ever need!

I know that people say copper-slip works fine- and it probably will be ok for you. But at the end of the day it is an anti-seize product, not a lubricating grease!

dont use mineral based grease it destroys the poly bushes! use sinthetic grease! ( about £2 from your local pushbike shop!!)
