I have a few questions on the Sierra driveshafts.
I will soon need shortened shafts to fit to an escort width dedion. (drum brakes to lsd (lobro joint) diff)

If I buy shortened shafts do these usually come with the cv joints?

If not does anyone have a source of the metal covers that go around the cv joints. (It seems that my motorfactor does not stock them) Maybe someone has a part number?

I like the idea of using the lobro style joint, as these seem easier to work with, but does anyone know if the lobro shaft fits the drum braked hubs? (i.e. are the internals of the hubs the same?)

Any input welcomed.

I was just thinking...

As the metal covers are not structural, but only there to keep the grease in place, could i make my own out of some tube and then carefully weld it onto the tripod joint.

THis would make future servicing really easy, as you would not have to destroy the shield, as it no longer narrows at the shaft end.
Putting on a little ledge should also keep the rubber boot in place.
As its welded it would also no longer require the rubber o ring.

Would this work?

My shafts were shortened witrhout removing the joints. I was lucky as the gaiters were in good condition.

Locla Ford dealer will sell proper CV refurb kits which include boots, clips and metal joint covers. They don't however include new O rings for the metal joint covers, so avoid damaging when stripping and retain the old ones for refitting.
