brake pressure switch
markyb - 15/2/09 at 07:55 PM

I am in the process of bleeding my brakes and have noticed that the front discs are being stopped by the brakes before my brake lights come on - I would assume that this is not a good situation to have ?

I am running a twin m/c system with wilwoods at the front and sierra calipers at the rear

how do I go about getting the brake light to come on at the right time ?

thanks

where's your pressure switch?

Do you have air in the brake switch? This could be the cause if it's mounted vertically.

At worst put in a T and a second pressure swith in Parallel so it either come on the Brake lights light.

the switch is at the front of the car roughly in line with the front wheels

It is sitting vertical - probably a stupid question but how would I bleed this ? I thought bleeding the front brakes would clear the air out of that section.

thanks

Get someone to lighty press the brakes whilst you slowly undo the switch, once fluid comes out nip the switch up whilst foot is sill on brake pedal.

Though be aware that brake pressure switches do take some force to activate even when bled properly.

I still think the logical solution would be for cars to be fitted with decelerometer brake switches... Shame they wouldn't be accepted for SVA. Makes much more sense in a Seven type car where someone will drive up your chuff under engine braking if you catch them out....
