Handbrake - please help me find the part I need
Dangle_kt - 1/3/09 at 01:09 PM

Hi everyone.

hit a bit of a sticky wicket trying to get the handbrake functional.

I have a handbrake lever with a small threaded bar attached to the back of it, and two handbrake cables which are escort fitment for my live axle.

The question I have is, what joins them togher?

I understand its a funny crecent moon shaped item... any ideas what it is called, or where to buy from.

I have googled it to death but can't fugure it out.

Happy to pay whatever the going rate is if anyone actually has the part and is willing to sell, otherwise just the name would be great.

Thanks in advance Rescued attachment handbrake.jpg

That moon thing is just the standard Sierra cable balancing part . I used to have one but I'm not sure if I still do. I'll have a dig around but I think it's gone.
My handbrake is off a Rover I think and just has a bar with 3 holes in. Middle to handbrake and then left and right to their respective sides. Summat like that wouldn't be too hard to fab up.

You get one with a new Sierra Handbrake cable but it seem a bit expensive for just the crescent thingy. I will look in my odds and end box to see if I have one. You could try the breakers or someone else on here might have one!

I also think I might have one knocking around from when I cut two handbrakes up to make one good one. I'll have look in the box-o-bits....

its called a compensator, make one from a peice of 6/8 mm flat 3 holes saw a slot for cables in outer 2. 1/2 hour max

THe cresent is only for one piece cables. What you need is a compensator bar. One hole in the middle for the lever rod to go through with an adjuster nut on the back. Two holes in the ends with slots to feed the cables in.

True- with the two handbrake cables like you've got you'll need a balance bar not a crescent. To use a crescent you'ld need longer inners so you couldwrap one around the crescent and wire-tie the cables together. I've found the crescent but it looks like it's not what you need!!!
