Diff ratio help with Atlas
Antnicuk - 6/3/09 at 11:21 PM

I currently run an Atlas axle from a 2.8 Capri with LSD. It has the stock 3.09 ratio and is very tall to say the least. 80mph in second is easy and cruising at 70 in fifth, i'm doing 2000 rpm.

With the small turbo i'm running i have no lag and the tall diff helps with traction.

I am looking to run a slightly bigger turbo and I think that the extra lag is going to be noticeable with the tall diff.

The rx7 that the gearbox comes from runs a 4.1 ratio and the car still does 160 mph and 3k rpm at 70 mph with 16 inch wheels.

I'm runing 15 inch wheels, I was thinking of something like a 3.5 or 3.7 ratio.

The LSD seems to work ok although people dont speak too highly of them when they were in a capri but from pictures taken of me while i'm at trackdays it seems to be working well and the car is very predictable and controllable.

What are my options with diff ratios and what will fit, I have heard there are problems with the CW+P's not fitting from the small atlas'

Also how do i decide what ratio

Hi there,

Will your Diff run OK in a normal Capri/Escort Axle?

ATB

sorry, not sure what yo mean? I'm running the whole live axle from a capri.

The escort is an English axle which is much smaller. Apparently there are 2 or 3 different size of atlas too.....
