i was wondering what the law is SVA/IVA wise on doing inboard read brakes on my mongoose. the car will weight around the 400kg mark and was thinking
of using a large motor cycle disk and caliper/calipers plus a handbrake caliper. Would this pass sva/iva regs.
Thanks Craig.
I've seen it done a road going striker. Discs were mounted either side of the diff. Don't know if it went through sva like that but i don't see why not? Jag's used to have inboard rears as did alfas.
Problems are mostly related to cooling and getting access for maintenance at least on the jag.
Can't see any problems with IVA.
jag used to do it, so shouldn't be a problem
NSU RO80 had inboard brakes on the front

I was looking at push bike disk brakes and wondering about if they'd work as an inboard hand brake?
Also as used by the 2CV and other Citroens.
This is from a 2CV:

So why is the text and not the image showing???

Alpha suds had inboard front discs with the handbrake too, just like the formentioned 2cv/dyane/ami

Apart from access the main problems with inboard disc is oil leaking on to the the disc. Of course it puts much higher loads in the drive shafts.
The main advantages are a reduction in unsprung weight and avoiding of braking torque reactions in the rear suspension. It is probably more
advantagous in a De dion rear end than irs.
Lotus used inboard drum brakes on 2nd generation Elite and the Eclat.

You mean put the disc on the rear driveshaft? Don't see why not, you'd have to have some spoke style wheels to show you've got no (visible) rear brakes though! Not sure a bicycle disc brake would be good enough it doesn't stop all 17 stone of me and I'm sure it needs to keep the car stopped
