Widest slick tyre on a 5.5J rim?
alistairolsen - 10/3/09 at 09:55 PM

Two sizes available:

16/53-13 and 20/54-13

only rims available are 5.5j x 13

Would you be happy running the wider tyres on a rim that narrow?

I know plenty of people run 195 road tyres on 5.5j rims, but I have no experience of slicks.

Cheers

Alistairolsen,

I cannot answer your question, but i was always told that ideally you want the thinnest width tyre for a rim, for best road holding. If you need wider tyres, can you not go up a size in rims?
cheers

im aware of that in an ideal world. this is for a one off, i have some rims and buying more would be prohibitively expensive!!

I'd stick to the 16/53s. According to the Michelin fitting guide HERE they're OK for 5.5" to 8" rims.

I had 16/53 michelins on 13x5.5s and they were too wide for the wheel tbh. Too much bulge!

How did they work on track?

Never actually ran them, they're still sat there in my garage! Got hold of a cheap set of worn A048Rs so they went on instead.
