Hi all!

I have just done a front pad change on my Mondeo (2002) and the fixing bolt has stripped the thread out of the lower guide pin (the bolt came out funny and had the thread still in the thread of the bolt when I got it out). Does anyone have any experience of mondeo front calipers and if so is the guide pin an easy change or is it a caliper off job?

Am hoping its not a hideous job........

IIRC it is the type with 2 fixing bolts that you have to use a 7mm allen key to remove. Not certain but the threaded hole is part of the hub assembly and is a 9mm thread same as the Focus? Your only hope is a Helicoil insert . Have a look on ebay for the kits, I paid about £6.50 for a new one with 10 inserts normally about £30. If you were closer I could have done it for you .Have had the same thing a couple of times now.

Doesn't sound like the same one to the Mondeo one. That uses an m8 bolt torques to a whopping 30Nm into a slide pin which is shrouded with a rubber boot and inserted into the caliper bracket.

The 7mm allen key set up sounds like the sierra/ka arrangement which is different

The heynes manual just says 'remove slide pin' but doesn't state how! And I am always dubious about heynes manual when they make statements like that!

If it is the slider that has a hexagon on the outer end then it sounds like it has siezed in the caliper bracket? use a spanner on the hexagon and gently turn the slider backwards and forwards to help free it off , a bit of penetrating oil might help . Don't put too much effort into it as it may break . Once moving you should be able to get it out of the mount . It may be possible to fit a helicoil if you can't get a replacement . Clean the bore and lubricate the slider with a bit of Coppaslip before refitting.

The slider pin seems to turn in the caliper bracket as it is supposed to but the m8 bolt that goes through the caliper and fixes into the slider pin gats no purchase. So I am intending to just go to my local 'friendly' ford garage and obtain a new pin. However as it is supposed to turn in the caliper bracket then it cant be screwed in and am confused as to how it is fixed and thus how hard it is going to be to remove.

In theory the slider should just pull out by hand . As said when you get it out clean the bore that it slides in and lubricate the slider before reassembly.
