Odd Sierra Front Brake Prob.
BigDawgV8 - 26/4/09 at 08:46 PM

Hi All,

I must of put about 800 miles on my car since finishing it last year and the brakes should be bedded in by now and they are..........on 3 wheels...............
On the front n/s, the outside pad only touches the disc on the outer 1 inch of the disc. The rest of the friction surface is untouched (and rusty!)
I have removed the pads, cleaned and refitted but they don't seem to want to bed in on this one wheel. ODD!
As far as I can see nothing is bent or out of line.
Any ideas anyone?

Cheers

Martin

sounds like the caliper piston on that pad is either siezed or been put in at (forced in) at an angle & so not smoothly pushing pad against the disc , but then again i maybe wrong, not easy without seeing it. but hope that helps.

Hi,
Thanks.
Calipers were exchange recon units.
The ''odd' pad is on the outside. With sliding calipers is it possible that the piston can affect the outer pad??
I would have thought the pins would keep it square?

Have you checked that the PINs are Straight and well lubed could be sticking on them.

Easy to test the caliper by removing the pad and giving the pedal a very gentle press to about 1/3 travel -- I think you will find the caliper is NBG return it.
