master cylinder leak and overhall kit

Hi all,
I have a leaking master cylinder, I think it came off a 2ltr Sierra. The only numbers on the casting are K0236 and 311688. Any ideas what they mean ?

Are the Overhall kits any good and where can I get one from?

Originally all sierra master cylinders were and should still be identified by a plastic strap around the master cylinder. The numbers usual cast on the casting only refer to the casting and not the internals which changed frequently.

The plastic strap (if still fitted) number is the only sure way to identify the cylinder.

Edit bit. - Personally I would never bother with a repair kit on a master cylinder, as a matter of safety.

Do a search on Ebay for "sierra master" - gives you options of buying replacement unit or repair kit .

Personallyy I always refurb master cylinders and I can't see why so many people shy away from it. Provided the bore is in good condition (can't tell until you take it apart) it's an easy and satisfying job.

Is it worth replacing the whole cylinder?

Ironc, got home tonight and one of the pipe unions is leaking on the cylinder and at seems the cylinder is leaking where the plastic reservoir meets the shaft.

I still have the plastic strip, so i know its a Ford item.

How much should a repair kit fit and any special tools?

Buy a new M/Cylinder?
