I recently picked up a 1.6 sierra rear axle assembly on ebay, and it seems that i'm missing a few parts from the drum assemblies!

I only have the brake backplates and a pair of drums. Replacement wheel cylinders and drum shoes are easy to get hold of, but what about the rest of the parts, like the springs and self adjuster strut.?

Would it be easier to just start again and find a complete drum assembly? (or perhaps someone has a pair of drum assemblies they'd be willing to sell?)

Should be able to get all you need fro here as plenty have upgraded drums to disk and may have the old stuff gettting in the way.

However there is a set on the bay if you're impatient LINKY

When I was building mine, I managed to pick up a rear brake service kit which had new springs, clips etc for £7.00 from my local motor spares shop.

aye, think it'll be the self adjusters that'll be the rocking horse poo poo

Yeah, if I can find one of those service kits, then I think the self adjusters will be the last piece of the puzzle!

Can they be easily removed from the sierra without taking off the backplate?

The self adjusters on the 1.6 (same as mine) are bolted to the brake shoes. Therefore if you find one in the scrappy take the shoes off and you're away.

That's good to know, I didn't really fancy having to loosen any more rear hub nuts to remove the backplates!

Will have a look round some scrap yards this week when i'm in Glasgow, unless by a stroke of luck anyone happens to have a pair of spare self adjuster struts?

That's it. Whenever you change the rear brake shoes, you have to remove the self adjusters from the old set and fit them to the new. Oddly enough, I'm pretty sure that when I had a Sierra in the 80's decent makes of new shoes used to come complete with the adjusters attached, but not any more
