Are there any tyre men out there ?
I need to know what is the maximum width tyre you can legally fit onto a 13" x 6J rim.
Thanks
RD
I've had 205/60s on 6J x 13" but thought it was nasty - especially on the Locost.
185/60 seems so much more under control on a 6" rim.
try this calculator linky

Thanks Rob
Calculator shows up to 225 but won't be going that far.
Looks like 185/60 may be the one to go for
Cheers

no prob, 225 seems a bit excessive! 185s are a popular choice.

All the RGB boys run a 205 on the rear of their cars on a 6J rim.
Hi
As Tim ^^ the majority of the kit racers run 205's on a 6" rim also with no problems.
Cheers Matt
Stick at the lower end of the tyre width range -- it gives better handling because the tyre dosen't roll around on the rim.
Size selection depends a bit on what you have on the front and weight distribution.
It all depends on wheel size and profile.
I have run 195 on a 6j rim and it was perfect, but then is was a 45 profile on a 15, so the tread was very well controlled. on a 60 profile on a
smaller wheel it wouldnt have been so taught.
On the front Id say it matters more as it pollutes your steering feel whereas ont he back the outright straightline grip means a trade off is
required.
To echo british trident, stick with the narrower end of the range. If you look up toyos site they will give you a range of wheel width for which each
tyre is suitable (r888s)
any problem with using a slightly to narrow tyre?
i have 185 on a 7" rim on the front of mine. last year i ran 185 all round.
all the guides i've seen say 6.5" max rim size for 185
