Brakes

Hi, after putting up with less than efficient front braking for some time, I recently changed to greenstuff pads. This has made no discernable difference with the same 'wooden' feel and inability to lock them without standing on them. I'm now thinking of changing the calipers and or MC & am after some advice.

I am currently on the donor sierra's calipers (vented discs) and master cylinder, would a change of master cylinder improve things - and if so, to what - or am I looking at a more expensive upgrade?

Cheers
Ray

Hi ray, i was never happy with the brakes on my Cat, i had new master cylinder, standard brakes all round, not vented though. And they felt naff.

On my new car, i have new single master cylinder, but willwood 4pots all round. Talk about chalk and cheese. 100000% better, pedal feels nice and hard with good feedback through the pedal.

I have sierra uprights so they bolt straight on..but the bad news is there £700+ for all four corners

Green stuff pads are no good for a
road car as they never realy get to
the temperature needed to work
properly.I would go for standard pads
every time,i do and my brakes are great.
I just use the standard for disks, front and back.

Smaller bore master cylinder and standard oem spec brake pads.

Replaced my standard Sierra master cylinder with a fiesta MK 1 Van non servo.
Made all the difference.
Much much better.
If you would like it ,it now lies on the garage floor along with the rest of my EX-Kit Car parts.

What is actually wrong with your brakes ?
do they not feel right, as it could be (as in miy case) that we drive all the time in a tintop with servo assistance, yet our 7 is direct pressure, so the feel is not the same

I was never happy with my brakes, untill i stuck 4 pot calipers in the front and green stuff pads, this helped a bit

but the bigest difference, was when i raised the push rod to the master cylinder on the brake peddle and thus changing the fulcrum point

NOW THAT DID MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE !!

My confindence in the brakes is 100% better
