been pondering why my engine is about 1 inch further forward thanit used to be.
also the gearstick is further forward as it is fouling against the tunnel top trim - pretty sure it didn't before.
now the gearbox wasn't really moved other than pivoted on the mounts to lower the front of the engine.
I am wondering if when fitting the engine, somehow the whole lot has moved forwards - I don't think the g/box mounts/rubber have given.
Don't think it is a problem apart from the prop going into the gearbox (4 speed).
The end has to be splined so it is a question of how far is it in - too little and there is a problem.
I will lift the car to see but how would I be able to tell if enough spline is engaged?
Should I unbolt the engine mounts and try to push the engine back to see what happens?
Arrgghh.... so close yet .....

Try and push the engine back, or at least find out why its moved !!!
If you've lowered the engine , shouldn't you lower the gearbox as well ?
front of gearbos has got lower but rear has gone up a bit - it is rotated on the gearbox mounts.
obviously both ends move in an arc so horizontal distance will have changed but I doun't think that accounts for the 25 mm.
I find it hard to believe that the gearbox mounts are so complaint to allow this.
most perplexing....
