Help!
I've ordered my snap-off boss adaptor and new steering wheel, but the boss is causing me some serious issues.
I'm using a Sierra column, which is jointed to avoid the oil filter on the zetec lump. So technically the column is collapsable in the event of
a crash/impact. But I really want a collapsable boss so when I take the GTS for is IVA I can be doubly sure there can be no issues surrounding its
use.
I'm using a Mountney M-range wheel, and have tried a number of places. I thought I'd struck gold yesterday when Deon Tweeks told me they
had one, and guaranteed it was collapsible. I got y hopes up, only to dscover today when it arrived that it was a solid metal boss - not a chance of
it budging in the event of an accident.
So, my question is this - do I fit the solid boss and risk it failing the IVA (even though the column is collapsable in 2 places), or continue the
hunt for what I think is the right boss?
If the latter, can anyone point me in the right direction? I've tried the local Motorania, Demon Tweeks, eBay etc. to no avail, and it;s really
bugging me now!
Thanking you.
Can't you use a standard Sierra wheel (type approved) for the IVA and then revert to your preferred setup later?
At a push, if I had to. Only issue is that I've ditched the Sierra column stalk switches in exchange for a Signal Dynamics push-button indicator
system with buttons behind the horizontal arms of the steering wheel.
I'd rather do it all right first time round and not hunt for the old parts to change and re-change post test.
Am I being too stuborn in thinking this? I don't want to create extra work for myself, but would prefer to pass IVA first time round due to the
high costs!
The big bus wheel (Sierra) is a blessing, as you get a larger exemption area for the dash (under SVA at least). Use that and then swap - it is a 5 minute job to switch.

FYI Mountney no longer make a collapsible boss. Momo do....

FWIW you may as well use the std sierra wheel. You can still use it even if you have taken the column switches off.
Then change it afterwards
FWIW I was going to fit my sierra steering wheel but its in the way of my gearstick so I'll be changing it I think.
I contacted Merlin Motorsport RE: their standard momo boss and they've told me its welded in such a way to make it collapse in on itself. Ill be
ordering it next week and if it arrives solid ill be sending it back. They've never advised me wrong so far.
Just thought id add this 2p so you know youre not the only one!

Ah, I've got a KK32X unit here, and it's the solid one. Just spoken to the customer service woman @ Demon Tweeks, and she said if I send it
back then they'll send me out the correct one. But I have to pay return postage apparently. And that's not going to happen.
So, I'll see if they want to offer me a Momo boss at the same price as Merlin Motorsport, else I'll be whoning them and using them again, as
they were quite helpful when supplying my exhaust parts.
Thanks for all your help!
