Help needed, As mentioned in the engine section , i now have a RWD gearbox for the citroen TDI locost , the problem is the output shaft has a non sliding rubber doughnut fitted and has a sliding propshaft.
Can i shorten the prop as the book but retain the doughnut and sliding prop?.(the prop also has a rubber mounted center bearing)Has anyone used this system before?
not sure but fiat 131's may have had somthing similar.

HI conrod, don't laugh but it's an FSO 1.9 diesel( the only box i could find cheap that would turn the citroen TDI into RWD.) The 2 piece prop i got with it has a U/J in the middle just behind a rubber mounted bearing, at the front of the prop is the telescopic section that will allow for about4" of travel, all that then bolts on to the doughnut that is fixed to the gear box. Do you think it could be cut down as the book , or do i need to keep it 2 piece and use the centre bearing. any ideas welcome.

Good god Phill have you no taste?the rubber uj,s cant take any angle so you would have to use a centre bearing on your prop hth

has the prop a sliding bit at the centre carrier and uj if not i think ud have to do away with that bit and just make it a once piece prop which shouldnt be a problem as im sure it needs shortened anyway

No i don't have any taste conrod!! but thats never worried me, or by bay city roller pants as a matter of fact! Back to the important stuff,the sliding part of the prop is about 3" from the output flange/doughnut and the prop moves through the centre bearing. Ive lined the engine, box and prop up tonight and it wont be to difficult to use the centre bearing, which means the rear section of the prop will have to be cut and end up about 16" from diff to centre bearing.
