anyone using an lsd from a tin top in there 7type, im thinking of getting one untill i can afford a tran-X. but im concerned that they are designed for a heavy car, therefore will be either inaffective or snatchy. should i buy it as its half the price of a new one with the correct ramp angles? i could sell the second hand one in a year when i can upgrade, it should hold its value

Just as a side note, I wouldn't use a Tran-X lsd, it's very harsh indeed. I had one in a VX C20LET turbo engined Mk 2 Astra and it was very "snappy" in terms of being on or off. I even took it out and changed the lock ratio (had 2 different options), but still no luck. My later Calibra C20XE with a 6-speed gearbox had a Quaife lsd, and it was a much nicer unit.

Still, that was just my opinion, and I'm sure everyone will have their own thoughts on the situation.

Loads of cars use sierra lsd's with no problems, starting to get more expensive now as they are becoming more scarce but you can pick up a good working unit for around £150 or less as long as its the more common ration of 3.62/1
