hi all, i have fitted my wilwood powerlight brakes, and under light braking they squeal real badly it is realy anoying, why is this?

can i stop it?

did you put copper grease on the back of the pads?

As above but also scratch up the rubbing surfaces of the disc and pads with 80 grade prouction paper.

Root cause of your problem is the brake pads are not reaching anything like working temperature, so any rust and other contamination embeds itself in the pad and doesn't get ablated away.

There are two usual causes for squeal.

First the pad is vibrating within the carrier. Anti squeal shims/springs and copper slip usually take care of this one.

Secondly, after time, modern pad material plasticises more than asbestos type materials EVER did. This results in thin tails of brake material (usually) on the trailing edges of all the pads. The cure for this is to radius the edge(s) of the friction material on all your pads. This usually cures the problem.

I have exactly the same problem... I was told Wilwoods squeal before I bought them but this is ridiculous....

Have you solved it at all Stuart?

I put silicon grease on the back of my pads which should do the same as the copper grease and will look at the other ideas tomorrow. The grease hasn't helped though.

Mine are fine

Assembled with a very light smear of copper grease on the back other than that they are dry.
