McSorley Wishbones - A few queries.
John P - 9/9/09 at 09:15 AM

Need to get on and make the front wishbones but still have a few queries:

1) Should they be standard (LoCost Book) length?

2) What diameter and wall thickness tube should I use. I believe 25mm dia is now recommended for the bottom wishbone.

3) What's all this about caster modifications, I assume to aid self centering?

Any advice would be welcome.

John.

Looks like your doing a similar build to me, i brought some standard wishbones cheap on ebay and cut off the suspension bush mounting tubes. I then welded a threaded insert to the wishbones and fitted high quality m12 rose joints, this way you can mess around with castor angles by using spacers each side of rose joint where they bolt to chassis..if you get what i mean??

Hi John.

I am building the +442, and made my own 'bones. I messed up slightly and ended up with the wishbones about 10mm shorter than I wanted, but I made them 'to measure' because I am using a 52" English axle, so needed to match the rear track as best I could.

Off the top of my head I can't remember the dimensions, but I can try and dig them out if that would be of any use?

I have a standard width chassis, and made my upper bones with additional castor to negate the book error. The curved tubes are optional, but are easily bent using a plumbers pipe bender (with suitable biceps!) Rescued attachment Wisbone Modification.JPG
