How to fit the clevis pin?
speedyxjs - 23/9/09 at 11:56 AM

I brought a sierra brake master cylinder from marmot0 a few weeks back which came without a clevis pin. I asked what i needed to fit one to the MC and he suggested one of these with a cut down bolt to connect it.
The problem is, if the brake pedal moves forward and pulls the clevis pin out of the MC, im left with no brakes.
How can i get round this?

I hope MikeFellows doesnt mind me using his picture but it was the only one i could find to show this on.

I'm in the same situation. I think the answer is to fit something to the brake pedal (a back stop? ) to prevent it coming back too far.

I just used threaded bar which attached to the clevis on the pedal. Also fitted a pedal stop.

You could use this

in the Chris Gibbs book that is in fact what you do. If the pedal is floor mounted you have a stop bolt on the floor which prevents the push rod from disengaging from the M/Cyl on top mounted pedals use a spring to hold it in contact.

Hope that helps.

as above, the old beetle has this problem and it just uses a bolted on bended metal bracket to prevent the pedal falling forwards.

Thats the answer. Pedal stop stops the pedal falling forward, the bolt/clevis pin should tight between the pedal and the master cylinder.

not a very good pic but it's how MK do it and seems to work OK, needs a piece a 1/8" ally under the bolt head to stop floor wearing
