Play in english diff

I posted a couple of days ago (here) about a funny noise from the propshaft/output shaft, well I have done a bit more investigating....

I found that both of my lower trailing arm bolts were not tight, which meant the axle could rotate when under load (eg by rocking gently when in gear).

I also noticed my diff (escort rs live axle) input flange moves sideways 2-3mm if you push it sideways. Does this sound normal?

no. pretty sure that is not right - the output flange sits in a bearing so there should be no side to side play.

looks like you are gonna have to take a peek

No, the pinion bearing is supposed to be pre-loaded so there should be no play here. Probably the crush tube has relaxed a bit over time and loosened everything up.

Oh well... It looks like the axle rebuild + lsd is next on the cards (it was supposed to be a winter thing!)....

Id expect mine is going to look like that as the sump is very low.
