Front uprights - best finish ??
fesycresy - 28/10/09 at 05:36 PM

Right then, what's the best finish for uprights ?

I've finished uprights in the past with red oxide and Hammerite and it didn't last long, I had to keep touching them up. Halfords satin seemed better than Hammerite.

Perhaps normal paint (as opposed to Hammerite) over red oxide would be better ?

I've a set of Cortina uprights that have been blasted and primered, however some surface rust has starting to get through.

Brake caliper paint has been recommended, but I can only see it in red/blue/yellow colours.

Any suggestion ?

ensure you thoroughly remove all rust then use etch primer or a zinc rich primer followed by Hammerite or similar Ronseal also do one.

metal primer and hammerite!

Perhaps I used the wrong primer ?

Red oxide gave a cracking finish but the paint didn't seem to take that well.

How have yours survived omega, did you find the hammerite brittle ?

por 15,it,s expensive but when i tried to get some off my chassis to weld a bracket on,i had to resort to the angry grinder

Brake fluid is a good one for removing POR15

Several thick coats of hammerite on mine and other than the odd bump where I took them off the other week they are as good as they were when i put them on.
