Wilwood calipers

Has anyone bled their wilwood calipers ?
Tried to do mine tonight but havent got a spanner to fit the nipples, it seems to be 6.5mm.
Anyone else had this problem ?

brake nipples are typically 1/4"

time to buy a teeny tiny spanner! wilwood being american means imperial everything. i used a 1/4 socket on mine. bled the system and just nipped the nipple up, take the tube off and finally tighten down with socket, most socket sets have got this size

I bought a 1/4 spanner from Cromwell.
You can get your rubber tube on the nipple then to stop fluid splills.

6.5mm =3/8" AF --- you can buy special brake spanners this size.

American and Unified spanner sizes aren't Imperial they are AF in inches.

Imperial spanner sizes were based on bolt diameter and thread type.

Well impatience hit me and I filed down a nice new shiney Beta spanner.

Haven't replaced it in three years, don't think I'll bother now !

9.54mm = 3/8th AF - 6.4mm is just over a 1/4inch so 1/4AF will fit nicely .

AF spanner sizes are just that - a 3/8th spanner fits on a bolt or nut that measures 3/8th

Old British (imperial) bolts are the only ones based on the thread size - BSF , BSW , B/A and cycle threads . So a 3/8th whit spanners is a lot bigger than 3/8ths

Actually a Whitworth bolt, say 1/2"w, had a head that took a 1/2" whitworth spanner. The 1/2" was the length of one flat of the hex, or 1/2 the distance across corners. Then during the war (WW1 I think), to save on metal, the head sizes were reduced to the next size down...so a 1/2"w bolt had a 7/16"w spanner.

Back on subject...Willwood bleed nipples are 1/4" AF.

Found an old AF 1/4 in the bottom of my spanner drawer.
