choke cable position
Dickyboy - 24/11/09 at 09:51 AM

My bike carbs have a choke control, I reckon the classic Mini locking cable will do fine but where to position it? My understanding is that behind the steering wheel area I can have a projection such as a choke knob, anyone else know different, done anything better or more interesting?

I left mine off till after sva, just whipped the bonnet off and pulled the leve with my finger whilst starting her up.

Behind the wheel or within the exclusion zone around it is the only place really, if you put it under the dash then it is still eligible for the test, even if it is out of site.

Hid mine up and under the dash until after SVA.
Now sits on the passenger side but still in reach when strapped in.
HTH.

Located mine behinf the steering wheel, low down on the left hand side in the exclusion zone. Certainly no issue for former SVA test.

A good point above about making sure you can reach all the controls and switches once strapped in - it's surprising how short your reach becomes from a 4/5 point harness.

Found a pic in my archive which shows the position, you can just see it next to the steering column, below the indicator stalk...

I put mine, along with the heater control knob, on the dashboard just outside the exclusion zone.... and got bum buggered by the tester...

In the end I made an ally/ply box and trimmed it so it looked "perminant" and put it over the controls with tiny little finger sized holes so you could just about manipulate the controls.

That passed.... however it got caught in a gust of wind one day in my garage and fell off...
