What sort of vehicle weight is the tipping-point for requiring power-steering???
A piece of string question. Power steering tends to be more direct, less turns lock to lock. As a result it is heavier if you took the power
assistance away (and associated hydraulic drag).
My Mk2 astra had light steering, yet a mk2 sri was horrible at very low speed. I think the difference was only the ratio.
Also power steering cars tend to have higher castor angles for more feedback and self centering action.

Cheers Darren.
Also very dependant on tyre widthand profile . I bought the (now ex!) wife an MX5 for her birthday which she loved. Followed up at christmas with a
set of low profile alloys and she suddenly couldn't handle it at low speed and parking.
I found it the MX5 fine but then she didn't have my bicepts!
A lot to do with tyre width, steering geometry and what end of the car is driven.

Even quite large rear wheel drive vehicle don't really power steering.
A good example is the early Ford Transits they had very light steering.
i had heard the xtreme was a touch on the meaty side...but power steering!?!

Nay Nay and Thrice Nay!
I really don't want to sell the RS4 V8, so am thinking about looooong term project plans... Audi Coupe with engine where the back seats
were???
Im seriously considering power steering for mine after IVA (when i might have some spare money) as mine has a small weight over the front wheels and
it will inherit my tintop's wheels and tyres which are 245's
Yes! same on mine, with that bloody great 24v V6 the steering was very heavy, plus 205 X 17 rubber bands didn't help, mainly at low speeds though < 25 mph. Fitted a Sierra power rack and a Renault electric pump, now just great. Cheers Ray
Ohhhhh nice idea! Always liked them and a bonkers converstion would be ace! Only question is....Sleeper or glammed to the hilt?

I think if I was going to do it, then I'd be obliged to make it a little 'special'!
No shiny bits though - stripped out rally-style interior with everything flocked, wider track (so wide arches), strut bars, adjustable suspension, big
brakes and an exposed engine bay!
Not that I've been thinking about it... much!
Or one of these (probably a better handling package to start with)...
