adjustable steering column / downlink problem
bodger - 20/12/09 at 10:49 PM

When fitting the triangular end tube of the adjustable column into the down-link clamp it seems to be about an inch too short. The down-link originally came off a fixed steering column but I swapped the fixed for an adjustable one. Is there a difference in length between the fixed & adjustable down-links that would cause this? Can the column's triangular tube length be adjusted ?

you do have to extend it remember the sierra column wasnt designed for the locost, MK MNR etc its a best fit design

Get a good grip on it and give it a good tug... Should make it a bit longer...

I got the extension done by MK but it was when I had the fixed column. I just assumed the fixed & adjustable columns were the the same overall length.

Disregard. My blond moment is over, gave it a tug and the tube extended. I didn't realize it could adjust fore & aft as well as up & down.

dont worry mate, I assembled my steering column then spent a week wondering why the steering wheel was trying to fit inside the dash

The adjustable column does come with an extra piece of extension on the connecting length though if you get the complete thing from a Sierra, It's about 4" long with a UJ and triangle ends to connect to the down link.
