Problems fitting a 2.9 quick rack?
adrianreeve - 22/1/10 at 08:00 AM

I tried fitting my 2.9 quick rack from Rally Designs last night. On the thinner passenger side mounting, I fit the thick plastic spacer, but when bolted down it was still loose, and there was no room to fit the thin spacer under the wider drivers side mounting. Am I doing omething wrong, or has anyone else had this problem?

Cheers

Adrian

Are you sure you got the correct bushes and the correct rack mounts the correct way round?

i had the same Adrian. i used a bit of 1.5mm ali under the bigger mount.

if you want you can bring your bits round mine and see if they are the same.

isn't 2.9 turns the standard rack? the quick racks ar e2.1 or 2.3 arn't they?

I think 3.5 is standard escort. RD quick racks a re 2.9 or 2.4. Although some 2.9s out there are just 3.5s with stops fitted.

I had exactly the same problem too - I used some thin aluminium to make shims to achieve a tight fit under the narrow mount.

The wide mount was a very tight fit - I had to file a little off the aluminum bracket and use a block of wood and a hammer to 'tap' it over the rack. I had to give it quite a few blows before I was convinced the rack was fully located in the bracket.
The plastic spacer on this side was a bit too thick so I had to file this down by about 1mm.

Yep mine was the same, had to put some extra packing under one side (can't remember which though)

This may sound daft, but what if you install a slower rack and add a rack quickener?
This may bring rack speed to desired rate.
