Too wide!
scutter - 6/2/10 at 05:14 PM

After changing my live axle to discs, i've a stupid problem.

The thickness of the disc has moved the wheels 8mm too far out! Any does anyone have any ideas on how restore the change, I've a few ideas but would like to hold off until others have chipped in.

ok heres a couple of ideas - get wheels with a different offset, trim your wheel arches, get wider arches?

spacer between body and wheel arches...

remove 8mm from the back of the wheel where it touches the disc, therefore changing the offset.

Same as getting new wheels

Tom's closest to my thoughts.

How does taking 3mm out of the wheel offset, 3mm off the mounting face of the brake disc (it's currently 8.3mm) and the rest off the arch lip.

Doing the arch widening thing, would take too much time, i've 3 weeks working on and off.

i wouldnt turn that much off the disc myself, thats about 40% off and although its clamped in tight, it does transmit a lot of force.

I suppose the wheel has more spare meat, so that part may be ok.

You must be quite keen on the wheels to not just get some with a different offset?

I'm too tight, finally got around to reading the arch widening thread, might give it a go.
