I know theres been discussion on this subject before, But i want to clarify things The sierra brake regulator is MINCE yes/no. The fiat uno brake regulator is good yes/no. I am at the stage of fitting brake pipes to my cat e1 and want to get it right. All opinions welcome

MINCE?

If that means no good then correct! You have to mount it correctly for it to work properly- presumably if it's same as on a Sierra then it'll work.

The adjustable Fiat Uno is good- but it must be fixed for the SVA test- by means of welding or roll-pin through the thread.

Our's just passed SVA without one at all - but if you're tracking maybe a good thing to have one.

you can also use one of a mini - will need non metric fittings - easy to get hold of and fit std pipe

If you have 9 inch rear brakes you will need to reduce the rear brake effort in some way.
The Fiat valve will be the simplest to fit.

The Sierra device is a G actuated shut off valve -- it shuts off any increase in pressure to the rear brakes over X g of decceleration. For this reason it must be aligned fore and aft and set at the correct angle it won't work in a stactic situation eg on a roller brake test.

The standard mini valve is a straight pressure shut off vavle it shuts off any increase in pressure to the rear brakes once an pre-set pressure is reached --- on a standard Minii this is very low, so to adapt it to and ajustable regulator as well as fitting an adjustment screw the spring needs to be change for a stiffer spring.

The Fiat valve is a load sensing valve connected to the Fiats rear suspension but by fitting a bracket and external adjusting screw it can be turned into an adjustable pressue limiting valve which is better and cheaper than the Mini based one.

There is another type of valve is a presure proporting valve fitted to later Minis (and also I am told some models of Chevy Corvette) , when this reaches a preset pressure instead of a complete shut off of any pressue in crease to the rear it gives the rears a proportion of and increase. According to the Fred Phun book "How to make your car handle" this type can also be made adjustable but Phun dosen't give details.

Apart from fitting a balance bar other more tradditional way to do it is to fit smaller dia rear wheel cylinders.
