Gaz shock problem
mickymacireland - 8/3/10 at 03:21 PM

Hi, Took my new build MK indy blade out for a track test on Friday PM. Ran well however kept locking pass front wheel. Checked the shock on that side, they are all GAZ adjustable. In the morning I set all adjusters at 15 turns and they all turned freely. However the one on that wheel now will not rotate at all. Anyone come across this before? Mike

never heard of that. one of mine had a dodgy seal that made it wee oil all over tha place and they replaced it same day. (factory 20mins from me).

give them a ring im sure they will sort it without too much bother.

15 turns in which way?

As said above, i'd give them a ring. I've only heard good things about their customer service!

Hi

You mean the spring platforms are all set at 15 turns?

If so it would be very surprising if your corner weights were right - hence you'll see one of the fronts lock before the other..

If the first point is correct re the spring platforms; - them turning freely, is very dependent on them being very clean and having little loading on them at the time in my experience - the 'clean' bit especially!

Or do you mean the little knob that adjusts the damping ? 15 clicks

mickymacireland - 8/3/10 at 06:40 PM

Sorry the pressure adjusting knob worked in the morning but would not turn are 20mins of use. I took the knob off to make sure nothing was stuck behind it but it still will not turn to adjust the shock (not the spring seat). The corner weights have been set.

Corner weights need set with the driver in the car, also springs will settle at different rates so corner weights need reset after initial settling in period.

Even with Gaz shocks you should have the dampers set at the really soft soft end of the adjustment otherwise your suspension won't be able to follow the road.

same here, fantastic to deal with

I can't explain why the adjuster would be stuck and I'd give Gaz a ring... But 15 clicks sounds very stiff to me. I run mine no more than 5-6in the dry and 1-2 in the wet.

Hi

Something very wrong with them dampers if your running 15 clicks. The range of valving that GAZ use would see no more than 7 clicks being used as mentioned above.

Also corner weights are clearly not set correctly if you are continually locking the same one wheel. I would hazard a guess that they have corner weighted the car using the 50/50 method if it has been set. This simply dose not work on cars of this weight with the driver off set.

If needed contact Gixermark on here who i am sure you must know. He will point you in the right direction regarding the damping rate to use. Try asking GAZ for a full dyno printout over the usable range of the damper. This will tell you instantly if they are valved correctly for the aplication.

Cheers Matt
