now i've got the axle brackets re-welded, i need to strip all the paint back off and re-do it (the paint kept catching fire lol)
whats the best paint stripper to use? i can use a wire brush in the grinder for most of it, but can't get into all the corners. is there one i
can sort of pour over and the paint runs off? or is that wishful thinking?
also, it really needs to no attack grease in bearings and stuff, although they will most likely get replaced anyway. but just in case any stripper
gets left inside the casing
What about a hot air gun and wire brush, it may melt the greese but if your careful it should not hurt the bearings.
steve
i've got a hot air gun, but its the getting into the corners thats the issue really.
i'm going to get all the bits i can with the angry grinder with wire brush in it, but what's nitromors like for the rest? do you brush it
on, and then wash it off or something?
Nitromors is the biz, It washes off with water. So does your skin if you get some on you.
Steve
I use Nitro mors gets most things off couple of goes for thick paint, used this on all my donor bits, use gloves though it burns skin.
Brush on Wash off
Nitromors
cool, i always thought it was a weed killer...
i'll start with the wire brush on the grinder till i can't get any more off, then get some nitro mors on it then. just didn't know if
it was as good as it says. 3 thumbs up though lol
cheers
nitromors....
if you cover in a plastic sheet you get even better results..
and nice skin blisters too...
For goodness sake wear goggles or be really careful. Nitomors is brilliant but really nasty stuff.
I used to use it on Citadel Miniatures when a kid. The fumes that came off when washing them off in warm tap water were horrendous!

lol gritters
so once this stuff does its thing, does it just rinse off? presumably the stuff that comes off it still pretty nasty?
Brake Fluid has done a decent job in my engine bay

as long as it comes of fairly easy thats good
i really don't want to screw this whole thing up again
so, plenty of rags, thick gloves (PVC gauntlets?) goggles,
plan is to get all the paint off, maybe a quick rinse to make sure its all off, and then dry it all off with a heat gun (or maybe a wiper over with
some thinners?) so i can get some etch primer on before it gets rusty
sound right?

Just one more thing, give it time to work, it's great stuff but it needs 10-20 minutes to work depending on the thickness of the paint. Slap it on and go and have a brew, come back and just rub a bit off, if it clears it down to the metal it's ready, if not leave it a bit longer. On very thick paint you might need to do it twice.
good tip thanks
been looking on youtube to see whats involved, very funny video of a guy who sounds like kermit
