R 888s
philw - 15/3/10 at 06:17 PM

I've noticed that on Ebay they are nearly £100 per corner they've gone up by £20 or so, what have other people paid recently?

norfolkluego - 15/3/10 at 06:22 PM

Depends A LOT on size, cheapest for 13 inch I've been quoted is £76 per corner delivered

prawnabie - 15/3/10 at 06:22 PM

Toyo will only let motorsport agents sell r888's now, so stock is limited to those people pushing the price of the ones left in the old market up.

Bragain! I was paying £245 a pair for Dunlop 211gp's (bike race tyres) they have just gone up to £330 a pair! talking to my tyre supplier he tells me that all tyres have gone up, pretty much like everything else it's alot to do with the price of oil and energy costs, I work in the steel industry and we have had to put up the price of steel as the energy costs are crippling the company!

robocog - 15/3/10 at 06:34 PM

Just got a quote today from Camskil and had a shock
£144 a corner before delivery etc!
Would want it secured to a magnesium wheel for that kind of money!

This was for 185 60 R13

Regards
Rob

Just had a quick look and Avon CR 500s are £114 per corner so i might give these a go, plus they are lighter.

I just bought 4 195/50/15s for £326- £81.50 a corner from Harkness Tyres:

He price-matched Camskill. I'd rather spread the wealth around

philw - 15/3/10 at 07:14 PM

Thats handy just up the road from me.

might be out of stock because dont think they are on toyo distributor list and think they have to be now
approved Toyo motorsport dealers

Yes only the new distributors can sell NEW toyo 888s. Any people selling them that aren't on the list will have to sell used 888s only.

eznfrank - 15/3/10 at 09:41 PM

I got a full set of SG compounds R888's about 12 months ago for £225 although they cam with the alloys so got a bit of discount - not looking forward to replacing em if that's the new price!!

procomp - 15/3/10 at 11:39 PM

Hi

Given the price of the 888's now and they are near enough the same as the Yoko 48's. Why the hell would you bother with the 888's given the Yoko is so superior.

Cheers Matt

Really, that comes as a surprise to me? Is that from your experience from lighter cars or just in general? Everything I've ever read says the two are very close and it's whatever you get on with personally.

procomp - 16/3/10 at 09:18 AM

Hi

Yea all the hype from so called testing by people who know nothing. It's all in the side walls. Ones designed to do a job the other is just a road tyre with sticky rubber and a tread pattern that looks like the other.

Cheers Matt

sucksqueezebangblow - 16/3/10 at 11:19 AM

Wow, what a stupid thing to do, Toyo must be nuts. They're going to lose an awful lot of trade! Looks like I'll be going for the Yoko's next.

adithorp - 16/3/10 at 02:49 PM

When I got mine it was a simple decision given the price difference. I'd have been looking automatically at 888's again if I hadn't seen this.

Thanks. We're only using the 888s for damp conditions on track, so a bit of movement is probably better for us given our modest driving talent!

Nash - 16/3/10 at 09:29 PM

http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Toyo/R1R.htm

It could be because they have just brought these out and they say they are much better in the wet.

Well lets face it they couldn't be worse then the R888's could they

Hmmm, looks like they've got less dry grip though.

Me too - Any info on such a deal would be greatly welcome

JonnyS - 19/3/10 at 04:53 PM

I think you'll find he was in the right place at the right time

m4maverick - 21/3/10 at 10:04 PM

I am thinking it might be time for a group buy. I will investigate a potential supplier I know and see if they are interested.

If there is anyone interested on here then for now just post your sizes required and the qty you are after and we will see where it goes.
