Do I, or dont I?
flak monkey - 16/3/10 at 05:04 PM

Dilema of the day...for me at least...

Do I strip the back end of the car down before Stoneleigh in the hope that nothing goes majorly wrong?!

Or do I spend the next 6 weeks perfecting the engine install?

big_wasa - 16/3/10 at 05:06 PM

Get the engine sorted...

What are you doing to the back ?

sebastiaan - 16/3/10 at 05:07 PM

You know my opinion. In case you've forgotten: No, you don't ;-)

1 problem at a time!

graememk - 16/3/10 at 05:07 PM

or do the same as me and hope for the best and fix it if it goes wrong, enjoy driving it, mod it next winter.

flak monkey - 16/3/10 at 05:07 PM

Complete rebuild really.

New fuel pump, LSD, disc brakes. Repaint all the suspension.

Probably a couple of weekends work.

tomprescott - 16/3/10 at 05:14 PM

Get the engine running perfectly before you start fiddling with bits that don't need doing right away!

Bluemoon - 16/3/10 at 05:15 PM

After... Iron out engine install problems first (i.e. after getting 300 miles on it...)...

..... and I thought this was going to be an avatar question.....

I would sort the engine first, but then again I don't really know anything

BenB - 16/3/10 at 05:24 PM

I always try to mend the first thing I've broken before moving onto something else

eddie99 - 16/3/10 at 05:35 PM

Deal with engine and front first, see how much time you have then before stoneleigh.

blakep82 - 16/3/10 at 05:39 PM

do what i do, bury your head in the sand til its a month later, and you've still done nothing

wanted to drive my car down the road and back by the 1st april... still not rebuilt the axle, or plumbed the engine in, or anything.

so, in short, if it works, leave well alone. if it doesn't, concentrate on that

GRRR - 16/3/10 at 06:13 PM

"a couple of weekends work" will actually turn out to be 4 weekends! Guaranteed!

jollygreengiant - 16/3/10 at 06:44 PM

David, I would recommend that you do what you want to do, but, with the old mechanics credo in mind 'If it aint broke, don't fix it.'

Finish the job in hand and then move on, the fixed job in hand might show up other weakness's that you were un-aware of.

flak monkey - 16/3/10 at 07:16 PM

Thanks, kinda confirmed what I was heading toward.

I'll leave it til later in the year, just promise me not to look under the back of the car if you see it Stoneleigh!

boggle - 16/3/10 at 07:17 PM

logic says do one job then move on...

but im illogical.....

i started on my brakes last week this weekend im doing my bonnet and tonight i was looking at the fueling.....

r1_pete - 16/3/10 at 07:26 PM

Yep sort the motor, leave the rest for next winter, it'll be here soon enough

Enjoy what summer we get

Daddylonglegs - 16/3/10 at 08:07 PM

In answer to your question......

....

....

yes

adithorp - 16/3/10 at 08:21 PM

Finish one job before starting the next. However the fuel pump replacement might be engine related enough to get that done as well.

Then again I'm... repairing body work, getting a new roll bar, replacing clutch springs, fixing oil leaks, working out how to fit an ARB, making a new diffuser, making a hood, making a luggage rack...
