I have just been talking to some one on here about brake fluid
I have had 5.1 dot in the indy for 5 years [ no problems ]
He thinks i should be using 4 dot or less 3
What do people think

5.1 is fine.

Not a good idea to change now - the different specs aren't totally compatible

Why would you use a theoretically lower spec fluid?? Stick to 5.1 if thats what you always have and are happy with it

Is he confusing DOT5.1 with DOT5 (i.e. Silicone)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DOT_5.1

Though if the fluid is 5 years old it could do with changing.

DoT 5.1 has to be changed more often than DoT4

I use DoT4 in all my vehicles and change it at least every 2 years or everytime the pads are changed.
