Just been out for a Drive - couple of problems
karlak - 10/4/10 at 03:56 PM

Just been out for a quick blat and now have a couple of issues.

Firstly, Bassist was following me and I thought I was leaving him behind, errr no he was dropping back as I was peeing Petrol out of the Vent pipe on right handers, after just filling up. ( Sorry Bassist) ) - Picture below. It looks like it has just a plain breather pipe - no valves etc. Any advice on what to fix this with ?

Secondly. About 4 miles form home was getting a terrible clunking noise. Turns out the near side wing stay has snapped (phew, could have been worse). So again piccys below - Are these Sierra fitment. Pretty sure they arent the Cortina ones.

So, am now looking for a new wingstay - They were a bit flappy anyway, so some more sturdy ones wont be a bad thing.

I stink of petrol!!

if you put a loop in the breather pipe that will stop the petrol coming out.

Your wingstay is a sierra one, very common snapping thou.

You're a bassist, it doesn't matter.

What do you play ?

Me - 5 string Jazz, (if it's not sunburst, it's not mine, I'm a bit traditional that way.)

Course, you could be a fisherman.

Yep thats what ive done on mine, my loop goes from the tank to just under the parcel shelf and back down to below the bottom of the tank

Thanks, so I simply put a loop in the breather pipe, zip tie it and that should be OK?

Also, sort of explains why I thought the fuel consumption was VERY bad - First fifth of the tank was probably not even going into the carbs - especially on right hand corners.

As for the Wing stays.... I think the main brackets are sturdy enough, so will replce the bits that bolt on, then bend round over the tyre.

What would be the sort of Steel I need to do this and where to source - I have no flash bending equipment, welders , lathes or stuff. But do have a vice and a will to get the job done

Put a loop in the breather and run it along the top of the chassis then down..

Wing stays are disposable items in my book, mine have snapped twice and now they are like bits of the Forth bridge

Not a fisherman!!

Modulus Flea bass, Musicman Stingray - both 4 string. I can't cope with any more!

Ohh, nice.

I previously had 3 Statii, (plural of Status, natch), but that was when I had money.

The Stingray is a lovely thing too.
