Battery placement

Not sure where to put this question but here goes.
I dont have room under the hood for my battery. Intercooler and everything else is in the way. I dont really like the idea of having the battery between the rear of the car and the fuel tank for safety reasons, as well as loosing what little space there is in there. Since I have enclosed clamshell style fenders, it is possible for me to put it outside the engine bay on the drivers side of the car. This would place it hanging on the side of the chassis under the fender. It would be invisible there but justs seems wrong for some reason. This would be closer to the polar center as in comparison to being right at the very rear of the car. Does this seem to be the logical place to put it or am I just way to tired to think straight.

I think thats a great idea but i would put it on the other side of the driver for better weight distribution.

The MGB has the battery in the rear - not the boot and military FFR (Fitted For Radio) land rovers had 2 batteries in between two petrol tanks.

So I do not think you worry is necessarily founded.

But you thinking is sound, if you can aboid it, best keep the battery away from the fuelk tank butthen you have wires running to the fuel tank and near it that carry electricity so it is not the end of the world.

The requiremens IMO are to keep the fat battery leads as short as possible and to have quick access to the battery to be able to disconnect the leads quickly.

not sure I understand your proposed solution but if it meets the above plus is protected from the elements, you'll be fine.

PS got any recent photos of your car? Have you done the front wings (fenders?) now?

what about putting the battery in the boot, in one of those plastic battery boxes?

I have not done much in the way of pics over the last few months- seem to be working continous 12 hour days so not getting much done. I am about to modify the buck for the drivers side (left fender) to match the right now. Also working on a framework that will tilt the entire bonnet, nose and both front fenders to make a complete tilt front end.
I cant put the battery on the passengers side as under the fender is almost completely taken up by the exhaust. I have put on a 2.5 inch exhaust with an oval magnaflow muffler which then feeds into a bullet style magnaflow that is visible behind the fender. Finally sounds pretty good.
