If the car is fitted with a LSD, what should happen if you jack up the rear end and turn one of the rear wheels in a forward direction? Should the other rear wheel turn forwards or backwards ?

Also, if I have got a LSD fitted, will there be an external way of telling what type/ratio it is?

Depends on the type of lsd. Quaiffe types don't work unless there is a load on them

With a standard sierra viscous LSD (and the transmission in neutral) the other wheel will go the same way as the one you're turning.

If you leave it in gear it will be very stiff to turn, as you are fighting the LSD, and the other wheel will go the opposite direction.

if you get the diff code from it, you can look up diff codes on here and you should be able to find out the ratio

I have looked for the code, but it is difficult to see as it has been painted - will have a closer look later.

It looked like it was a non-LSD type number Using the sticky in the engine/transmission section). However, when I turn the rear wheel forward, the other goes forward as well. Would a non-LSD do this also ?

no, that sounds like an LSD to me.

unfortunately i dont think there is any way to gaurantee the internals just from a visual inspection, i think all lsd's had bolt on drive shafts, unfortunately though not all bolt on driveshaft diffs were lsd's. That siad from your description of what happens when you spin a wheel i would guess it is an lsd. if memory serves me correctly wasnt 3.62 the most common lsd ratio?

From what I have learned there were only 2 common ratios. In 7 in diffs 3.6 for the 4x4 V6 and 3.9 for the 2.0L DOHC 4x4. The 7 1/2 inch was in the 2wd Cosworth and usually 3.64. Some early non traction control Granadas had LSD diffs
