Having problems getting handbrake to work properly on sierra calipers.
Brakes bled and feel good on the pedal, handbrake cable adjusted correctly but still not locking rear wheels.
Car not driven yet so is it a matter of the brakes needing to bed in and adjusters in calipers taking up the slack ??
Cheers all
Very probably
My handbrake was rubbish to begin with but now it's alright after bedding in and auto-adjusting.
Make sure the cable has enough slack
As the car has not been driven yet, does it have new discs and/or pads? If so that you will feel a drastic improvement once you get some miles into
them.
I remember when I first took my car out, it would barely stop with the pedal (let alone the handbrake).
Are the levers fully back against thier stops when the handbrake is off? If not the adjusters won't work.
The foot brake adjusts the calipers handbrake mechanism when it's pumped out (the handbrake shouldn't be pulled untill this is done).
If all that is right then it's probably just in need of bedding in. If that doesn't help then possibly the leverage isn't right at the
other end (is it standard Sierra lever?).
adrian
Yes standard sierra levers, I will check to make sure there against the stops.
As always thanks all.
I have a Sierra set up in my Striker at the rear and the hand brake seems really touch and go. Some times its fine, others the car pretty much will just roll off down a hill. Should I put my foot hard on the brakes before applying the hand brake so the self adjuster works or am I at the wrong end of the stick?
