
I need to pull mine apart to weld on axle mounts and I dont really want to buy a haynes for the only escort component on the whole car

Easy, 4 bolts at the ends holding the backplates and shafts, remove and pull. Out they pop, weld away and replace
Thinking of new bearings? That's another story, you'll see when you pull the shafts out!

Found some stuff online, there seem to be two options, either two taper bearings back to back or a cartridge type ball bearing like the front of
modern hatchbacks?
I assume nothing retains the shaft apart from the outer bearing?
