welderman - 6/6/10 at 10:21 AM

im still building my single seater, but with the weather being sooooooo good for the past few months its been on hold, to get me going again i thought maybe some slicks for it then maybe it could sit on the floor and i can make some brum brum sounds whilst sat in it , what size do i need as ive searched and there in funny sizes, your help will be greatly appreciated fellas.
Simply sunbeams seem the best so far.

Thanks in advanced.

20/54/13 should do the trick
Like these.
Currently running 20/54 on the back of my westfield on 7x13 rims and 16/53 on the front with a 6x13 works really well.
For trackdays only obviously.

How does the sizing work on slicks?
What do the numbers represent?

20/54/13, i understand the 13 bit, but what do the other numbers mean?

See above link.

the 20 means 200mm wide
the 54 means the total height of the tyre so 540mm
this used to confuse me as well bu tits really simple.

Now i've read that pdf, it makes sense.
I just never understood what the first numbers signified.

The 20s would be better on a wider wheel. depending on weight and balance the 16s might be better all round

Bear in mind that the 16 is the tread width, not the section width as given on most tyres. It is actually closer to a 195 tyre in width, and radial slicks work better on wheels nearer to their maximum allowed width.

I'd be looking at a 16/53 13 Formula Renault fronts, i'm putting a set on my 13x6 fronts and 13x8 rears tomorrow morning

I agree with previous comments, I've used 20-54s (rear) and 16-53s (Front) on 7" rims, they work well. I have a pair of 20-54x13s I bought from Stickyslicks last year, unused by me, and no longer required, if you're interested..

Btw, I dont think 20-54s would work well on the front of a light car, I use 16-53s on mine with an anchor on board!
