shocks? good bad and ugly?

ok sorry if this has been done before, Im currently building the back end for my trike and had been planning on running a pair of bike shocks on the back, but generally they arent strippable and the ones that are, do not have much in the way of variety of springs etc

I have seen GAZ ones in a few places about £60 each, I only need 2

Im really wanting them as slim as possible will be going down to the bottom wishbone with it so want to have some room.

I have seen negative comments regarding these, is this just certain models? or maybe older ones?

seen protek? mentioned in a magazine any suppliers of these that can be recomended?

I dont have a lot of money, but what I do spend needs to be spent wisely, I cant afford to buy and then have to replace soon after

Protech are probably the best value for money and not too expensive.

+1 for Procomp - really knows his stuff (and can probably advise on spring rates too)
