rod ends for steering
Miks15 - 21/7/10 at 07:51 AM

hi guys

Ive finally decided on a route to take with my steering setup. IM going to be using rod ends to connect the rack and the Hubs.

Do i need to use thos top hat things between bolt head and rod end, and rod end and hub?
Or is it OK without these? ie just the bolt through rod end, then hub, then a nyloc (with a few washers inbetween).

Cheers
Mikkel

It depends on the angle of droop of the track rod arms with the suspension at the top and the bottom. The top hat things allow a slightly increased angle before the rod end binds.

Get your ruler out and measure your car. Calculate if your rod ends will work as they are or if the top hat things will make it work.

OK that seems to make sense.

I will probably just order up the rod ends, fit them then post a piccy up and double check with everyone here

Could be an expensive way of doing it if you can't get the articulation you need with the rod ends..

what do you mean?

Surely i can just put the top hat spacers on afterwards? if i dont have enough?

Yep, not sure of the numbers would look them up for the rod ends you are looking at.. Even with spacers there is a limit..
