yay found the smell (how to fix brakes q)
Lars - 25/7/10 at 03:44 PM

Just got my car on the road again.

However it started to create a rather strong smell.
It turns out that the front n/s brake (it seems to be the outer pad, going by the wear rate) is sticking.

as both fronts run off the same master cylinder I presume the problem lies with the calliper? (The offside calliper works perfectly.)

can anyone confirm? Or is it still likely to be the m/c?

Is this the excuse i have been looking for to get a set of Biggred's brake callipers?

Sounds (or smells) like it. Don't know what calipers you have but some have a guide pin that gets a bit sticky and prevents them from opening back out after braking. A good clean and some copper grease should cure it.

Or buy some new upgraded brakes like you want to

Cheers

Yes a good clean and grease up will do the trick, I use red rubber lube on the piston seals, and behind the dst seals, which seems to keep things free during the winter lay ups.
