Quick rack Query
Dan. - 3/8/10 at 09:35 PM

After having a play in my car (engine isn't in yet but its always good to sit in the seat he he) I have decided there are way way too many turns lock to lock... Been looking on the rally design website and found two quick racks:
A Quaife 2.8 turn
http://www.rallydesign.co.uk/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=50&products_id=13561

and a unknown make 2.7 turn
http://www.rallydesign.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=900_901&products_id=7326

Obviously there is a substantial difference in cost, is there any reason to pay the extra for the quaife rack?

Isn't a standard Escort rack 2.8 turns? I tried a quick rack (2.4 turns) and couldn't get used to it so swapped back - its amazing how much difference 0.4 turns makes

i used the quaife one
nice quality

you will possibly need a new bearing for the pinion, if its as tight as mine that is!!!
cant remember what size, but readily available

I used the raklly design unit in mine which was perfect for my Indy.

However, there was a quality issue with the manufacture as the circlip on the pinion wouldn't seat properly (the groove was too narrow so it wouldn't fit).

On that basis, the Quaife unit is probably a better bet (unless RD can confirm that the pinions are now being correctkly machined).

Do a search for steering quickener,
That may be (or may not) be cheaper-easier.
